My last manicure started to chip :( so even though I loved it, I had to rejuvenate it. I also wanted to try out my striping tape. I removed the hearts from my ring fingers and painted them fame fatal red by essence. Then I put 3 strips of striping tape along the base of the other 4 fingers and 5 strips vertically on the ring fingers. Then I painted the four fingers with fame fatal over the avon viva pink pink/orly quo paint the town red sparkle originally on the nails. I painted Avon viva pink on the ring fingers. After pulling off the striping tape and topped with seche vite. Photos below are of the previous manicure and new photos taken in natural light when it's cloudy out.
Today I have a mega post for you. This post will quickly touch on two Valentines manicures and go more in depth onto the third, which is my current manicure.

The first manicure is one I did for my friend while watching movies the other night. Keep in mind, this was done in the dark. My friend is more of a vampy kind of Valentines person, rather than a cutesy girly pink person. I gave her my swatch bin, and she picked out Center stage by Jessies Girl as a base. Its a dark blood red colored almost jelly finish. This was the first time I'd used this polish and the formula was less than ideal. It was very thin and streaky, yet didn't come out of the bottle too well either. So not a lot made it onto the nail and it dragged into thin yet chunky streaks. it took three attempts at thicker coats to get the full opacity without streaks. Thankfully, she had decided on a reverse feature nail. She decided on one coat on each nail except the ring fingers of Quo by Orly Paint the town red, with the ring finger left sparkle less. She loves the manicure and it totally suits her in every way.

The second manicure is one I did for myself that night. I started off with Viva Pink by Avon. Its a darker bubblegum pink cream polish. The formula on this is fantastic. Its just the right consistency and almost completely opaque in one coat. I used two coats on my nails. Then i took Step to the Beat of my Heart by Nicole by OPI, from the Justin Bieber collection, and brushed thick coats onto my ring fingers, trying to get a bunch of hearts. Due to trying to place the hearts in the thick clear jelly base (with aqua irridescent glitter) it made that nail thick and slow drying. Even after the top coat it was less than ideal. It was bumpy and wasnt really the look I was looking for.

So for my manicure that i'm sporting now, and LOVE, i used the same base Avon Viva Pink. I took off the ring fingers on the last manicure and repainted them, and added a third coat to the rest of the nails to refresh them. I decided to give my original idea another shot, and try to get it to match my vision. After my viva pink nails had dried, i poured out some of the Step to the beat of my heart onto a piece of plastic wrap and used a dotting tool to pick up and place the hearts. I placed them in rows entirely covering my ring fingers and topped the whole thing with a coat of seche vite. I topped the ring fingers with 2 coats of top coat to make it flat. For the rest of the nails I sponged on a little Quo by Orly Paint the town Red from the base of the nail upwards towards the tips, and topped with one coat of Seche Vite. I am loving this manicure and I think I'll try to keep it until we go away for Valentines day on Thursday. The photos for this were taken in the sun! Yay, the first sun we've had in awhile, so I was super excited to get some I could photograph the nails in.
I decided today to do a jelly sandwich manicure. I'd never tried this before, and I dont have a lot of jelly polishes, but I thought I'd give it a shot and I really love it. Although with any glitter in play, the little glittery bits on the skin are annoying to get off, so I opt to let them come off naturally with hand washing. Okay, so I watched a youtube video by PackAPunchPolish on this technique before I started. I then picked my jelly polish. I chose OPI Mod-Ern Girl. I started with one coat of basecoat and then one coat of Mod-ern Girl. At this point it was almost totally sheer. Then she had said you need a glitter polish with large pieces, so I grabbed my new Quo by Orly polish I picked up the other day, Paint the Town Red. Since Mod-ern Girl is a orange leaning coral, I thought the red would go pretty great with it, and I was right. After one coat of the glitter, I put another coat of Mod-ern girl. The look still wasn't entirely what I was looking for though, not enough glitter, and not jelly enough looking for my tastes. So i put another layer of glitter, and another coat of Mod-ern Girl. I topped it with Seche Vite. I am so far LOVING this look, although with all those coats, the polish is quite thick and I don't know how long it will last before it starts to chip or peel off. I will definitly try this technique with other colors and glitters in the future.
I just popped into shoppers drug mart and saw this gorgeous puppy in the clearance section for only $4.99 (original price $10.99). I just couldn't believe it, Orly Paint the Town Red. A little google on it shows it was in a Canadian only released collection of glitters. I am completely entranced by this polish, the combo of large circle glitters and small glitters just catches my eye and I can't look away. It makes me think of Dorothy's ruby slippers from the wizard of oz. It is super sparkly and I can picture several great manicures with this including the Sparkly red French tips I plan to try sometime. I decided to go with a bit of a Dorothy theme by starting with a pale blue (sinful colors cinderella, two coats) to mimic her dress. Then i put one coat of Paint the town red over top and topped it with one coat of seche vite. I was a tiny bit disapointed in the density of the glitter. From the look in the bottle I expected it to be very dense and full coverage, but it ended up being more sparse. It did give a good glitter payout though, enough to only need one coat. I love the way the nails make me think of Dorothy's dress and shoes. I am really loving this manicure more and more as I look at it. Its a great combination.
So it's really nice sometimes to make an older manicure look completely new, without having to start all over. Today was one of those Days for me. I decided to redo my manicure from yesterday and turn it into pink zebra French tips. I used French tip guide stickers to create a French tip at the top and used Q-tips with remover to clear out the polish underneath it. After removing the polish underneath I added a second French tips sticker leaving a very slight gap in between the tip and the bottom. I used Sally Hansen so Celeb City to create a silver paint over the center gap between the two stickers. Once it dried up all the stickers off leaving a nice silver border on the French tip. I topped it with three coats of Seche vite. While this manicure is a little bit time-consuming with removing all the polish underneath the sticker, it is very worth it in my opinion. The photos are taken with and without the flash. Ignore the bottoms of the cuticles on some of the fingers in the flash picture where the little bits of pink are left behind, it was pretty hard by the end to get that little bit out.
So this manicure is one of my all time favorites so far. I started off with one coat of Revlon Tulip. I like this polish, the fomula is decent and not too thin or thick. One coat makes it opaque. Opaque enough if you plan to put something over it, like stamping, at least. Its not streaky or anything even after one coat. Then i took some Sally Hansen Black Out and used Konad plate M57 to stamp a full nail zebra print. This polish works wonderfully for stamping. It was crisp and clear and the full image transfered easily onto the stamper, and then onto the nail. Then i put a thin layer of OPI I Juggle... Men. I haven't really used this polish before, but I really like it. It a transparent polish with a blue/purple holo sparkle. It really gives this manicure that little bit extra. I finished it off with Seche Vite.

Just a quick post today, I did this manicure today. I started with a
basecoat of Sally Hansen air, which is a gorgeous light shimmery blue and then added a coat of OPI Katy Perry
teenage dream to give it a pinky slightly glittery finish. Using Sally Hansen salon manicures bittersweet, which is a light chocolate brown which leans a little bit to the pinky side, I used Konad M57 to stamp the cheetah print on top. I used some Art Deco by LA colors in blue,
red, yellow, and pink to draw the little dots on to the cheetah print
and I topped it with Seche vite top coat.

Okay, so thanks to oily nail beds which make my nailpolish peel off a day or so after I put it on, I've had to paint my nails again. Darn. lol. Anyways, I decided to do a glitter manicure again. But this time do the loose glitter from the base of the nail towards the tip. I did a basecoat and then two thin layers of OPI Yodel Me on My Cell from the Swiss collection. I love this polish, the application is good, its pretty opaque even in one layer. Then i sponged some top coat down at the base of my nails radiating upwards toward the tip. Then using a makeup brush i brushed on a little lime green glitter on each nail. Then i sponged on top coat again and sponged some pink glitter with holo flakeys on the ring fingers over the green glitter. Then i sponged topcoat on the other fingers and sponged purple glitter over the green on the other fingers. Finished off with two coats of topcoat and I love the effect it has. Its not too thick so it shouldn't chip or flake off but knowing my nails it will peel off in one piece per nail over the next 24 hours. The photos are with and without flash.
I've wanted to for as long as I've been interested in my nails, yet they don't sell it around here. I've tried regular tape, but try cutting it into thinner strips, man that's hard! The strips are never straight, are hard to place, and even the next day they tend to pull off the polish. I've also used french tip guides, but they are curved and thicker. I was browsing Ebay today, and I came across this. It is a pack of 10 different colors of striping tape. Going for a whopping $1.41 with free shipping. I know the quality can't be marvelous, but for a first try of something I think that's a good price to pay for what basically evens out to an experiment. I can't wait for it to arrive so I can try manicures like this one featured on the facebook page of Man Glaze.
This was created by the Crumpet and shared to the facebook page of ManGlaze Original Matte Nail Polish, which I follow. I love this manicure for so many reasons and once I get my striping tape I plan to do my own version of it. I am thinking maybe tropical colors, Tropical cocktail colors, Caribbean turquoise, Palm tree green, Sunset colors. Or maybe monotone with various shades of the same color, maybe Pink or Blue. I am brimming with ideas. The reviews of this seller say the shipping is super fast so I'm really hoping it comes quickly. I'm still loving my manicure from yesterday, and for once it isn't chipping off, so theres no new manicure of the day today. Yesterday I painted a sunset and water scene with a palm tree silhouette on my friends nails, but I forgot to take pictures, so I can't even show you what I had planned. Anyways, I'm off to watch Ghost Hunters and relax a little since it's back to work tomorrow. Hello again,

Today I was out grocery shopping and I saw this Joe Fresh polish on clearance at Extra Foods. I've never tried Joe Fresh polish before, with it being a supermarket brand and never being overly drawn to the colors. However, being on clearance for $1.94 was enough of a reason to give one a shot. I grabbed this holographic silver one called Starry. I expected it to be like every other holo polish I had and just be a sheer top coat style. But happily I found it was full coverage, even after one coat. The polish had a fantastic formula, and applied like a dream. I then used Sally Hansen black out and Essense Off To Miami to use one of my Konad plate for french tips, which I haven't done in forever, since I'm usually not too great at it. Anyways, it turned out excellently and I am very happy with it. I capped off each with the color to prevent chipping. Pictures below are without and with flash.

I started off with a Basecoat of Sally Hansen insta dri. I then added
two coats of off to Miami, which has a great formula and is full opaque
with two coats. Its a gorgeous coral color that looks great with any
skin tone. I topped that with one coat of space queen, which is larger
holo glitters in a sheer peach jelly. Space queen applies a little
thick and I don't think you could ever build it up to opaque on its
own. The peach of the jelly base doesn't show too much, so you could
use it over any color. Both Off to Miami and Space Queen are by
Essence. I topped it off with Sally Hansen Insta Dri.
Today's manicure of the day features a base of two coats of Revlon Cherry Crush. Cherry Crush is a pink leaning red with a gold shimmer and it applies fairly well. Maybe a little on the thin side. It also has a tendency to bleed into the cuticles, so watch out for that. On top of the Cherry Crush, I used one coat of Nicole by OPI Bring on the Tinsel, which is a multicolored glitter in a clear base. I put an extra coat on my thumbs and ring fingers to add a bit of pizazz. Its all topped off with Sally Hansen Insta Dri.

Cha Cha Red... What can I say? This polish was a little bit troublesome in the application stage. It dripped down from the top of the brush even when you scraped it off, which pooled on the nail. It was a little bit thin, and was hard to not get on the cuticles. The second coat didn't really follow the first as well as other polishes. The color is a dark red leaning pink. It has a creme finish and dries fairly quickly. It only takes two coats to be opaque. After I did my two coats on all my nails and let it dry for a minute or two, I sponged Essence Pink Princess on the tips and a little down towards the bottom of the nail to create a glitter gradient. Pink Princess is pink holo glitter in a pink tinted base. This polish will never be opaque on its own, but over any kind of pink or white, even black, it looks great. Topped the entire thing off with one coat of Insta Dri in the red bottle. I like the look but I'm not sure how many times I will find the time to fight with Cha Cha Red again.

So i pulled out my swatches and I found two colors that matched perfectly. I went with New York Colors in West Village. This polish is a one minute quick dry. It is a complete dupe of OPI Russian Navy. Its a dark navy with a slight purple shimmer. The formula was great, it gave me no application problems at all. It was opaque in just two coats, and the second coat followed the first perfectly. The shimmer is visible in the sun, which around here hasn't been seen in awhile. I started with a base of nutrinail 5in1. I then painted two coats of West Village. Topped it off with one coat of Sally Hansen Insta Dri. Photos are taken indoors, with an Iphone, with and without flash. I have to head to work so I have to cut this one short :) Have a good day!
So today I am going to show you my stash and most importantly, how I
store it. I bought this three drawer Sterilite unit from Walmart for
$16.99. And on the top I put my necessities. Anything I need regularly
that I wouldn't want to dig for. My remover, my bucket of swatch
sticks, my cuticle cream and french tip guides, an emery board, double
sided brush/dotting tool, cotton pads and precision tipped q-tips. And
most importantly on the top are my Sally Hansen hard as wraps basecoat,
my Sally Hansen insta dri top coat, my growth treatment, and my Hard
Candy Matt-ly in Love matte top coat.

In the first of the three drawers i have my nail art supplies. Along the front I have my precision nail art pens and striper polishes. Then I have my stamping polishes and other top coats, glitters, glow in the dark, etc. Then a variety of emery boards, brushes, clippers, etc. Nail glue, and then remover. Decals, stamping supplies, sponges, glitter, and sequins.
Next drawer down is polish. I have taken a white circle label and written the name of each polish on it and placed it on the top of any polish that doesnt already have the name labelled on by the company. From front to back I have them organized by brand: OPI, Sally Hansen, Essence, Sinful Colors, and LA Colors.

Bottom drawer is the rest of my polish (excluding one magnetic polish that I lost right after I bought it and before I even got to try it, hopefully it shows up one day). It has all my polish brands that I only have one or two of, my mini polishes, and my Revlon in the back. It also has room any new polishes.
I love the foily finish of Celeb City. I do find it is difficult to get to go flat though, as any slight touch, even after the top coat has dried gives it ridges, which show up very distinctly in the foily finish. The Sinful Colors had a slightly thin but easy to work with formula, and a touch of shimmer. The Black Out is not my normal black, as I usually use OPI black, but it was a good formula, not too runny and it was opaque in two coats. The polish is very thick, with two coats of each polish, but I think its cute, and I change my polish every day or two, so it doesn't have to last that long. I did already nick it a couple times since I did it, but luckily that Celeb City also can be pushed fairly well back into place without leaving finger prints, so its all good.

On a completely unrelated note, I found these at walmart yesterday, and they are AMAZING. The best part is the peanut butter creme has the consistency of the caramel in a caramilk bar. Yum.
Either way it's not goodSo a quick update, I'm not sure if the nutranail treatment I talked about yesterday just doesn't make a good base, or if the petites polish just isn't very good but less than 24 hours later every nail is bare. The polish peeled off each nail in a single piece, leaving no damage or roughness behind, thank goodness. But it doesn't bode well for the nutranail base coat in my opinion.

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pamela Weisshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10284745869499226565noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4001930781638608244.post-33082316646919071492013-01-17T20:56:00.003-08:002013-01-17T20:57:52.285-08:00New Polish Review and Swatch - Petite Color Fever in Creme Blue and my first time using Seche Vite

So along with my nail and cuticle treatments I picked up one polish. Its a brand i've never tried before called Petites. The color is called Creme Blue. Its a baby blue with a grayish undertone. As you can tell by the name, its a cream polish. I found the application to be decent, the formula is a decent consistency, a bit thin and streaky on the first coat but the second coat made it opaque. The only trouble i had was that the brush was tiny, so you needed to do lots of strokes to cover the nail, and it didnt even itself out very well. Any extra polish on any one spot didnt flatten out very well and left ridges. I started off with the NutraNail 5in1 treatment for a basecoat, and then applied two coats of Creme Blue. I used a nail art brush and dotting tool to add a design in Orly Meet me Under the Misseltoe. I topped it off with Seche Vite and it was the first time I've ever used Seche Vite. Normally I use my go-to Sally Hansen Insta Dri. I think I'll stick to my Insta Dri in future. Seche Vite dried just as fast, if not faster, but I don't think it gives the same glossiness as the Sally Hansen. The Insta Dri also feels more hard when dry than the Seche Vite, stronger almost. Overall I liked the color of the polish even though its not in my normal spectrum of color, as I tend to be drawn towards the brighter colors than the gray toned colors. The formula was good, and it didn't take too many coats to be opaque, which made it not too thick on my nails. The small brush was both a hinderance and a help, as I had to go with more strokes, but the small brush also gave good precision allowing me to stay perfectly away from my cuticles. I'd say about 3.5/5. Worth the low price that its sold for at Rite-Aid, I think it was $2.99 regular price (but I got it for 75% off on clearance).

First up, from Fred Meyer, is Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Cuticle Eraser + Balm. The description on the box says:

"Combination remover and creme quickly eliminates excess,
ragged cuticles & hangnails as it conditions nails and cuticles. The
result? Instantly, healthy, beautiful, conditioned cuticles that look
up to 80% smoother.

2-in-1 formula with white tea & cucumber
gently & quickly loosens & exfoliates stubborn, overgrown
cuticles while leaving skin feeling deeply moisturized

Helps prevent hangnails and promotes healthy nail growth

Can be used daily"

You basically rub a tiny bit into your cuticles every day and its supposed to buffer off the dead skin and moisturize the cuticles all in one step. Super easy right? Well, first thing I can say about this is something I noticed immediately after opening it. It smells AMAZING. Like you're in a spa with cucumbers on your eyes. It also looks so pretty with its green and white swirls that I almost didnt want to mess it up. But I did, lol. It has a slightly waxy finish to it, which i like. It gives it a little bit of a moisture barrier on the skin. It absorbs easily into the skin and even after just one use my cuticles seem a little smoother and more moisturized, although I have a long way to go since winter has been harsh on my skin. So far this product gets a thumbs up. I'll post in a couple weeks to let you guys know how its working over the longer term.

Second product I picked up, which I found for 75% off at Rite-Aid is the NutraNail Total Nail Care 5in1 Treatment. Its supposed to be 5 products in 1.

1) A growth treatment that shows visibly longer nails in 5 days
2) A strengthening treatment that has stronger nails in 3 days
3) A ridge filling base coat that makes your nails grow with less ridges in the future
4) A super glossy top coat
5) A moisturizing complex for more flexible nails

My first impression is that the lid is triangular shaped, and a little awkward to get off the bottle. I can't imagine it being easy if you have already painted your nails and are trying to get the topcoat open. So far I've used it as a basecoat. Its super shiny, so I imagine it would be as shiny as a top coat. My nails do look smoother. I'll let you know in a week if the strengthener and growth treatment worked.
Today I decided to try a new manicure. I started off with my sally hansen hard as wraps base coat.
I originally planned to do a base coat of Sinful Colors easy going, but I had such trouble with the application that I picked a different color. The formula was somehow both thick and thin at the same time, and ran like nothing else into the cuticles. So i went for my new Essence color, Thats what i Mint. This color is a gorgeous light almost robins egg blue with a greeny tint. Its a creamy base, and the formula has a good medium consistency. Two coats made it opaque. Then i grabbed a dotting tool and dotted on OPI Katy Perry Collection Teenage Dream. I did a bit of a liney-swirly pattern with the dots. Topped it off with Sally Hansen Insta Dri.
Sorry about the cleanup, thats what i DID notice about thats what i mint, I was a bugger to clean off. I also need to pick up some more cuticle oil, so forgive me for that for now. lol.
The first pictures are with the flash and the second set of pictures are without the flash.
I put down french tip guides and colored the tips with Sally Hansen Gem Crush Showgirl Chic. The formula for the showgirl chic is marvelous. It has the perfect consistency and it only takes one coat to be opaque. It has a foily silver color with flecks of royal blue glitter. Its lovely. Photos below taken with flash.
So the other day I was down in the states doing some shopping with my boyfriend, and I was in Walgreens, I think it was Walgreens, and I found myself drawn to this gorgeous baby blue shimmery polish. I immediately walked over and started doing the "Oh my god I have to have it" dance. The gorgeous polish was Cinderella by Sinful Colors. It is a creamy baby blue with a pinky-orangey shimmer in it. When i first used it I must admit I was a little tiny bit dissapointed. The formula was a little thin for my liking. My nails are a little short at the moment, due to some unfortunate Christmas season breakage, and the thinner consistency tends to get a little more on the edges of my fingers. I also found that the shimmer wasn't as prominent on my nails as it was in the bottle. That was a bit of a dissapointment because the shimmer is just so gorgeous in the bottle.
I always start with a base coat of Sally Hansen hard as wraps. The one
in the blue bottle, I've never tried the pinky one. It is great. Its
quick drying, smooth, and really does add some serious strength to your
nails while protecting them from staining. This polish took 3 coats to get to get opaque, and with my shorter nails I could have gotten away with 2, since there was no nail line to be visible, but I went with 3 anyways. I always finish off with my very favorite nail product of ALL TIME,
Sally Hansen Insta Dri top coat, in the red bottle. That stuff is
magic. It dries so quickly and allows you to get on with your day. Overall, considering the formula issues, and the lack of translation of the shimmer to the nails, I still give this polish a 4 out of 5. The color is still so gorgeous its worth fighting a thinner formula for, at least in my opinion. Just keep some extra precision Q tips or a pointed orangewood stick around to get any stray polish before it dries, since its so much easier to fix as you go, rather than after it dries.
The first photo is the Hard as Wraps basecoat. The second photo below is without the flash, and the third photo is with the flash. I was hoping the shimmer would show up better with the flash. Ignore the desk, it has a bunch of polish stains from various manicures and when i was swatching my collection this past weekend.
You may not know it (I hope) but a year ago, i could not paint my
nails. I swear they looked like a drunken monkey got ahold of them.
Then i realized that doing my nails is a super stress reliever, and
since then, i have gone through bottles of remover, tons of trial and
error, and expanded my nail polish collection to what my boyfriend calls
"Ridiculous" levels. I post pictures of my manicures for my friends
and I've gotten a lot of good feedback so I decided to start a blog to
keep all of it in one place and share my love of nail art with others. I
have become totally addicted. I'll admit it. Thanks to girls like
Nailsaurus, I have decided to dedicate some time to a blog to showcase
my designs, review polishes, and help others learn from the mistakes
I've made and all the neat tips I've picked up. If i can do it, anyone
can. Okay, I'm rambling now, so i'll just get on with it. The photo below is my Swatch stick bucket. I bought the metal bucket at Ikea, and i have each color group (warm, cool, neutral, and glitter/texture coats) strung together on a loop of ribbon. I made the swatch sticks by gluing a false nail to a popsicle stick and painting them. I wrote the brand and color name on the stick, which makes it easy to find it in my newly organized nail polish boxes which I have labelled and sorted by brand. So without further ado, Welcome to Splashes of Polish.
